I'm still celebrating the Chinese New Year this week. If you are also riding the Lunar New Year party train and have been invited to a festival dinner. But you are not confident in your chopstick skills, I'm here to help you.

First, I like to hold my chopsticks a little closer to the top end. The bottom chopstick goes between your thumb and your palm, then curl your ring finger, and it's resting on the ring finger. Try to move the chopstick, it doesn't move too much.

Then, you are going to rest the top chopstick on the bottom of your index finger. The top of the thumb is holding the top end. Then curl the index and middle fingers to hug the top chopstick. Notice the distance between my thumb and my index finger.

There is a knuckle distance between the tip of my index finger and my thumb. You are going to try to move just the top chopstick with your index and middle fingers. The bottom chopstick does not move. The higher you hold the chopsticks, the more grip you get. Thanks to Newton's leverage theory.

Start practicing. After a few minutes, you will be able to pick up some easy stuff like cut fruit, chips, and cookies. With enough practice, you will be able to pick up more impressive stuff like little slippery red beans.

Definitely do not be embarrassed. I was born and raised in China, and I didn't learn to use chopsticks properly until I was 15. If I could do it, you could do it too.
HAPPY THE YEAR OF THE FIRE HORSE!
